“ We are all caught up in this” using the nets from fruit bags such as passion fruit and oranges, I attempted a series of ice blocks with the plastic found objects. This proved to be difficult because of the melting and the smaller objects. Something that I added to this photo shoot that kept coming up was the addition of the terminology “we are hanging by a thread” parts of the icebock nets were hung with found fishing line and other fine singular material. I also thought that the net was not effective enough, it just looked like another part of the found objects.
This was one of my attempts, but I hated the shape, form the container, as you will see in future images, lots of shapes will be attempted.
This was the first attempt, but I hated that the plastic container dictated the shape. Net series 2
Playing around with the harshness of a flash, because of the subject being brutal. I didn’t get any images from these that I would isolate, maybe the concept was too true as too stark.
Using a silver yoga mat back drop(also a found object) and this eventuates that everything was very citrusFraming work is sometimes difficult, this is an image that I would have selected, however the backgroundbrings you back to reality. This was another 8mage that I liked, however the shape of the ice block makes it look less compelling, the later images will show the opposite to this. This netted group, was much larger than the yellow citrus net, this has a lot of toys in it and one thing that kept coming up during this shoot was time. “We are running out of time”. When I photograph, I use a bracketing technique, which is over and under exposure. However due to the detail I did work with the flash and I also worked with a long lense to make sure I was able to get all the detail on the shot. These images have space, dangling in space. The below series are repeated close ups of detail of the caught found objects in the net. I really enjoy photographing this series, I thing it just had to do with the combination of plastics collected, the shapes, size of object and light in the sky at the time. The day of photographing this group I found she small bell’s during my collecting so this group is called alarm bells. A lot of these netted works were really stuffed and re frozen, or the opposite, I would wait unlit they melted or smash them on the ground to get some movement. This next group is the event of waiting for the frozen ice to melt, the netted bunch of plastic was falling all over the place, it was hung with found plastic silver streamers and slowly turned like the revolving world we live in. I like the term Citrus, for this group because it may pose a juxtaposition.
This next series was a struggle, I found that the amount of plastic was too much, I could not get the light right so many of the images are over and underexposed. I am old school and light photos to be editied by the settings of the camera rather than having to do a lot of work photo shopping, another reason why I use the bar letting technique. Another thing I don’t like about these images, is the size of the ice cube, it’s too small and has no impact. I think that the use of the ice can mute the intensity of the amount of plastic, or as I have mentioned before giving it some breathing space.
Then next groups of photos are from another hanging, these were the net of Marco plastics, it’s was difficult to capture the size and amount, I tried isolating, I also tried manipulating and addextra plastic which felt funnily enough, like cheating the photograph. This bunch was hung by a fishing line. And the ice melted into this weird shaped block, like an Easter Island statue, so clashing in a bad way. It doesn’t work it’s a what is she trying to do snap shot.
