Another option on how to make assemblages, less waste, and they could be suspended and also be seen in all different angles.

This might help bring them all in union rather than all being a little bit disjointed at the moment think the framing is really important to that what it says about the work I’m freezing them and it’s actually the objects themselves not being taken away from the main point.

Influences, found before & after I created my own.

I find it really interesting when you go to the trouble of making an artwork and then it’s like because it’s in your realm or the colours or shapes are similar you seem to find things that have the same compositions or themes that you’ve been working on without even trying.

Short straw

One of the main things that I find everywhere parks streets beaches are straws I passionately hate straws!

An idea I had around straws was because of the amount that I’ve been collecting is to line them up and on the shortest straw put a world globe.

Sore thumb

Found items too easy ☹️

I had an idea in regards to a lot of the plastic that I’ve been collecting something that comes up for me is that when I’m seeing it in the grass or on the beach that it sticks out like a sore thumb so I was thinking that one of the assemblages could be the shape of a thumb with a bandaid over the top of the thumb and loan the whole today I found a bandaid still in it’s wrapper on the beach it’s quite devastating that I find things so easily we really do have a problem in this world when it comes to plastic ☹️

Plastic doll progress

Worked on the doll again this week, I was given a plastic toy doll from a friend and I’ve cut her up (please note she was already cut a little her head was cut off to put a plant in… In case you’re squeamish).

So I have cut her feet off and her legs and her hands and her arms just to try and get some sort of structure I’m going to use the neck and attach some type of plastic form for the shoulders and then attached the previously sown arms and legs.

I’m going to use the cowboy boots that I have found an coloured and wasn’t sure what to do with.

But alas this project is definitely on hold this weekend because I have a major assessment due in another subject can’t wait to see the finished project on this one.

Ball History

So as I am a dog walker I have been coming across quite a few balls

So I was thinking about piercing them all together and making a type of abstract but when I was cleaning them and sorting them out I noticed that they started to resonate different characteristics of the way they’ve been chewed and destroyed.

because I’ve been working with dogs so many years I can see the dogs that have done it I can see the border collie and the kelpie and the staffies that have annihilated the balls.

So with one of the found objects I found it looks like a tool box of some sort or and has a lot of attachments to it and I’m not sure whether to completely wipe them or use that to my advantage so I put the balls and this box together which does look a lot like a medicine cabinet and or display cabinet.

So as an experiment I put the balls on each of the attachments in it’s in the cabinet and I noticed there was a bit of a story or narrative starting to form so what I’m thinking of doing is looking into finding someone that can write a beautiful calligraphy writing such as the old history books like Darwin collected plant samples in animal samples and will always write a tiny little word underneath them like #lorikeet

I have definitely been spiralling on this idea I do like it I’ve also thought about other things that I could do such as instead of having dogs names I could have the workers name on who made the plastic ball, such as an Asian name and the province that they come from, but due to time there’s just no way I can do that and I don’t think it connects with the fact that they’re chewed in all different ways I think I have to leave that one alone for another time.

Or do I just paint them and turn it into a unknown abstract??

Instead of that I would put Barry the boxer under one ball and thunder the staffy under another and start to bring them to life.

the other idea that’s developing around this one is that I actually photograph each ball in a lightbox separately with the titles of Daisy they’re cavoodle and Buster the boxer and then put it into a typology so I might talk to my photography teach you about this.

But getting back onto the theme of assemblages I am quite excited about the concept of this so I think I might make the box stark white or I’ll look into museums and just see what type of colours that they use but according to my 331 subject everything is white the white cube haha.

Assemble it and photograph it.

Covid response assemblage

This work started with all of the little plastic bags that medic medicine come from again found objects. another found object was the game operation and it had a doctor with gloves and a mask and a patient looking very startled so from that I just built collage work around things that we’re coming up while I was making it so pictures of houses black cross because nothing was working and also that we have to stay at home. This again is an experiment I have taken photos of this on my camera as well. the caution sticker is obvious.

I feel like I need to pull back on this one a bit but I’m not sure what to pull back on that or it could be two parts because the collage work up the top and the assemblage down the bottom very hard to photograph.

I’m saying pulling back on it I definitely did pull back on it in comparison to the work I did with the bees I’ll try and attach a photo of that and you can see the difference in how busy one is to the other so I was trying to take that into consideration.

Little Girl legacy

With one of the found objects, a skipping rope, I thought about making it into a snail coil. Then I kept collecting all of the little pieces of plastic and then came up with the idea that the snail was giving off a residue off plastic.

So much pink! This is an experiment that I’ve come up with it’s not resolved.

I think I’m going to try and find a children’s draw with stickers all over it on cleanup site (which I see all the time) and see if I can assemble it in that.

The main photos for this one of been taken on my Canon but I’m quite happy with the concept.

Little Boy legacy

After creating the snail and all of the pink plastic on the little girl, I was constantly thinking about little boys as well. Because it’s about children’s impact and plastic.

So the idea that I’ve come up with for boys is making the shape of a gun and doing the same with my found objects but in Blues instead of pink’s.

For the backgrounds I was thinking of plain colour because of all the plastic that I’m using I don’t want the chosen items to get hidden. So something along the lines of white or yellow fake plastic /fake leather. Something super shiny but something that will contrast all of the little bits and pieces.

Because I’m using the title legacy and because of how we associate boys and girls the use of the colours pink and blue are on purpose. we have to change very deep seated habits regarding the use of plastic and the way we look at boys and girls.

I think it is a bad legacy I think it’s important that it changes, that we stop putting girls in categories of pretty pink plastic things and boys of destruction and war and blue. Being a twin that happened to me quite often as I was growing up.

For the background I was thinking I either a tartan shirt for army green or just plastic black maybe for the boy.

I’ll be looking for a draw with boys stickers on it hopefully cobalt blue or white but definitely children’s drawing I see them all the time.

If not I have a musical instruments lid that I found that I can use because it’s a bit longer.

Found Mirror

I found a beautiful mirror on a clean up site, whilst walking some dogs this week. Weighs a ton and has the fantastic chalk markings on the back. I was thinking of perhaps doing a self-portrait in illustrator so the old with the new and pasting the work onto the mirror.

More to come on this because I could also use some objects as the portrait I print out the portrait picture and then start to add it attached the artist that I’m thinking of that makes amazing things so maybe I could try.
